  I was embarrassed as a child a lot. Then I was embarrassed upon discovering I'd been in a cult my whole life. Now, I'm not embarrassed. It was the nature of the beast.

  so strange that last night my experience was bothering me so much i posted about it here.

  this morning my mother sent me a friend request after 20 months of no communication from her.

  i replied in a message.. this is what i wrote:.

  JW's DO celebrate Xmas!

  i'm finding it really funny how many witnesses celebrate christmas without actually 'celebrating christmas'.

  i'm just looking at facebook and seeing how many got together with family on christmas day or boxing day and had a big roast dinner, often with turkey, ate too much, drank too much, played some board games etc.

  then a few days later i'm seeing photos from all their 'family present days' where the kids get a ton of gifts to open.

  Fear. JWs are some of the scariest people on earth. Fear of man is their modus operandi

  Tons of JWs celebrate the holidays and then go all ballistic over the Xmas decorations in the community. They are a very judgemental and confused group.

  ok so you had a bad experience and you stopped going to church which ever one that is.

  but did you stop believing or are you that peeved you blame god etc.

  i would encourage you to humble yourself before your messiah and seek him, he will let himself be found by you and come dwells within you.

  I find I am Shunning my family !

  although i really hate the wt/jw shunning policy, which especially huts those who have been df'd, i find i am in a kind of way doing it to my jw family.. i do not include them in anything i do, in my own family gatherings, and i cannot be arsed to inform them of things going on in my family, or to even go and see them, unless really necessary.. this all adds up to a kind of "reverse shunning", and i do feel a twinge of guilt about it, but it is simply how things have become.. do you, fellow faders, find a similar thing happening ?.

  When we first left the org, we didn't initiate contact for a few months. We'd decided that we needed time to get our bearings straight and clear our minds. It wasn't totally deliberate. But looking back we definitely shunned JW family and friends first.

  How do you guys feel during the holidays?

  this is a very lonely time of year for me i admit it.

  i'm suppose to be going over my aunties house wednesday after work.

  but going to christmas/holiday parties and get togethers, i still kinda feel out of place.. i really wish i grew up celebrating the holidays more.

  I have mixed feelings about the holidays. I've helped several relatives to get their minds and hearts out of the cult. And they are really big into the holidays. I feel bad for the ones still in. I know they are judging us harshly.

  For me the holidays have come to represent freedom. And it is that freedom I celebrate now.

  i thought the kingdom ministry feb 2014 had a couple interesting things in it:.

  1. a short talk encouraging the jw sales force to publicize the jw.org website at every opportunity.. 2. do not put out bibles on your table displays keep them hidden underneath.

  i thought they were so p-p-p-p-proud of their new nwt??.
